Multicultural & Intercultural

At Dianella Church of the Nazarene we are Multicultural- meaning that we come from many cultural and ethnic backgrounds; however we are also Intercultural- because we choose to see these could-be obstacles to unity as opportunities for unified growth as we can all learn from one another’s God-given diversity, knowledge, and unique ways of worshipping.

Belonging to an intercultural community requires recognising and supporting our multicultural body. We do this through language learning- offering skills needed not only for common-language gatherings but also for survival and integration in our local communities. We hope to begin offering English as a Second Language (ESL) classes in addition to the several relaxed community environments that we already have for practising new language skills. These include the weekly Coffee, Connect & Conversation and Movie Night, in addition to youth nights, women’s nights, and men’s day outs as well as other casual church body activities.

However, the multi-culture reality of our family reminds us that learning a new language and culture is exhausting and even though it is important to grow and learn together, it is also vital to have time and space to learn and worship in a familiar language. That is why we support and encourage language-specific worship gatherings during the week that promote growth and provide cultural accountability and understanding.

These cultural celebrations fuel us and assist us in finding ways to glorify God by honouring the beauty of our own and other cultures when we gather together every week on Sunday mornings, as well as to serve together in weekly ministry, play together in weekly crafts and movie nights, and prayer together in fortnightly prayer encounters.

These language-specific gatherings remain open to all people, regardless of nationality or background, but will be conducted in the native language and cultural style indicated.

If you accept this invitation to attend a gathering outside of your spoken language, you can expect to be welcomed generously and graciously but also to be challenged by the opportunity to experience the struggle of verbal and written communication barriers. While challenging, the Holy Spirit can use such experiences to plant seeds of compassion, understanding, and humility that can grow into deeper maturity, grace, wisdom, and love.

We currently have one language-specific communities:
